The 11^th Election Statement of Chin Student’s Union (India)

The first ever, unique, Chin Students’ body was known as Rangoon University Hill Chin Students’ Union (RUHCSU), was formed in 1946 by a few Chin Students of Rangoon University. The aims and purposes of the union were to fight, to struggle and to participate in the movement of achieving independence from the British Colonial. Chin Students in Rangoon bravely participated in the fight for independence from British Colonial. Burma’s independence on 4 January 1948, the Chin Students were vigilant in extending their roles as a safeguard of the national interest and had played as a strong force on the governments’ policies and the entire national issues of social and political agenda especially on minority ethnic groups. However, when the General Ne Win seized power by force in 1962, forming Students’ Union was immediately prohibited for fear of students’ participants in democracy activities. Students participated in such activities were put to jail. The General Ne Win government had assassinated the students’ leader Salai Tin Maung Oo on 26 June 1976.

Chin Students’ Union Conference and 11th General Election was successful

The Chin Students' Union-India (CSU) conference was held on 15 August 2012 in New Delhi, India where more than 30 participants including the senior students, advisors and invited guests from the Chin community attended.  The event is organized once in every two years in a bid to discuss the opportunities and challenges confronting the Chin students in India and find ways to help and elucidate education and social problems of Chin people, welfare, cooperation and solidarity among Chin students across the world. In the one day Conference, the CSU had amended its constitution and elected the leaders for the 2012-2013 academic year.  This year, the committee was said to have included other programs for encouraging the people in a way that they can develop a better knowledge about the Chin Students Leader Salai Tin Maung Oo who was assassinated by General Government on 26 June 1976.

"We are very happy to see all the participants from different colleges with different background come and sit together, and reported 2010-2012 activities including financial," said one of the advisor members of CSU(India) in New Delhi.

The Students’ Union of the session 2010-2012 has been one of the most hard working and successful Union in the recent time. The Union members under the guidance of Advisors Dr. Achan Mungleng, Mr. Plato Van Rung Mang and Mr. Rachi Cinzah (Papu), etc. have made the Union proud. The Union comprised of really dedicated and hardworking members, to name a few Salai Laitha Andrew- the President, Salai Sang Hnin Lian- General Secretary, Kejung Kimsing- Vice President, Salai June Nilian Sang- Asst. Secretary, Mai Dawt Hlei Par- Financial Secretary etc.

Key Activities of May-November 2010

Ø  The CSU has stood for assisting students in getting admission to schools, colleges and universities and met with principals to accept the Burma students in future and to give opportunities as their own people. The CSU has admitted three students in Delhi University and five students in New Holy Public School, Delhi Public School, Bharati Public School and Harsh Convent School.

Ø  As Chin Students’ Union is the member of the Chin Students and Youth Federation (CSYF), Salai Laitha Andrew and Mai Lallenmawii attended the first Conference of CSYF at Chin National Council office on 28-29, June 2010.

Ø  The Chin Students’ Union has successfully organized Education Awareness Workshop on 13 November 2010.

Ø  CSU participated with Students for free Tibet (SFT) in a meeting organized by Oxfam to raise awareness on the environmental issues especially base on climate change on December 2010.

Capacity Building Training for Better Employment

(Dated 9/10/2011)Our project has been done successfully as prepared, at 5:30 pm 8 Oct 2011. In this project, 53 trainees attended in the first day, and 48 trainees in the second day including CSU’s members. In the first day of the training, the program started from 10:00 am to finish at 5:00pm in Chin Believers Church (CBC). Initially,   Mr. Ravi Hemandri who is legal expert of refugee affairs in India constitution had taught under the topic of “Right to Work.” He, Mr. Ravi, based on the article 21 of Indian Constitutional law which says that everyone who is on Indian soil has right to work his / her livelihood and can travel inside the country  or out of India. Nevertheless, due to discrimination upon Burmese refugees in the work places, the refugee’s youths are lagging behind unemployment. Since the Burmese refugees are not having adequate skills to seek jobs in formal sectors such as MNCs and eminent companies majority of them are working in informal sectors like local unregister companies.

Furthermore, the refugees are no holding require documents in order to seek for jobs in formal sectors they have to work in the said local companies which pay only nominal wages. It had depicted that if a Burmese has a necessary skills to work in formal sectors, he has right to apply in formal sectors and acquire better situation while he or she is living in India in terms of surviving. He had also give some ideas how to approach if a refugees face discrimination or improper treatment among employee by employer which against the constitution of India court. Some of participant who has faced such sort of problems before were raising the question why they have sucked from their jobs by unreasonable facts? He answered their questions with some assumption and the participants were somewhat satisfied  with the answer so that they have got some idea how to report to the police and who kind of things should be done not to happened in the future.

Capacity Building Training for Better Employment (Upcoming Project)

22^nd August 2011: Burmese refugee youth in Delhi have a difficult time gaining employment, even if they have some job skills already. Many youth depend on remittances from their families settled abroad for their survival. The CSU will organize a free three-day training program for 20 young participants who already have sufficient qualifications (some even university degrees) but lack the skills to apply at Indian companies. The training will be provided by Indian experts who will teach participants how to apply for a job and how to use English in the workplace.

The organization plans to repeat a similar training in future from other sources, based on an evaluation scheduled one week after the training.

The Proposed topics to be discussed:-

(1) Communication Skills

(2) Personality Development

(3) Group Discussion etc.

 

Education Awareness Workshop Has Successful

New Delhi, November14(Saturday) under organising of Chin Students’ Union, the Education Awareness for Chin Students and Youth has been conducted. The presentations were given by eminent personalities and cooperation with Delhi Mizo Zirlai Pawl(DMZP). The workshop was sponsored by Euro Burma Office.

The aims of the workshop were to impart the importance of education amongs Burmese students and youths who living in Delhi, to encourage them to access India education for their future betterment as well as for rebuilding of the future of Myanmar. From respective Chin Communities six representatives were invited and there were fifty seven participants in the workshop. The followings topics were discussing in the workshop:--

1.      Education opportunities for Chin Youths in India by Dr. Achan Mungleng, Coordinator of South Asian Euro Burma Office

2.      What is Education? By Dr. Run Biak, Principal of Prospect Burma.

3.      Youths and Politics by C. Lalengkimi & K. Lalbiakchhunga, School of International Studies J.N.U.

1st Conference Of Chin Students And Youth Federation

The first conference of Chin Students and Youth Ferderation(CSYF) has been hold on 28-29 June 2010 at Chin National Council (CNC) office Aizawl City, Mizoram, India. It was conducted by CNC and six organisation members were participated :-Chin Students’ Union (CSU), Zomi Student and Youth Organization (ZSYO), Chin Youth Association (CYA), Mara Thutly Py (MTP), Zahniet Youth Organization(ZYO) and Chin Youth Conference (CYC). The sixteen leaders were attended including leaders from inside the country. This conference was the first time since established of CSYF.

From CSU, Mr.Laitha (President) and Ms.Lallen Maii were presented. Respectives organisations were given paper presentation regarding the current politics in burma and role of students and youth. They resolusion for serving brigther future of Chin state and it's people was resulted. They had also make crucial step of future plan for Chin state such as protection of environment and  summer education campaign etc. The leader for term 2010-2013 were under the followings:- GS.Mang(President), Peterlian(Vice President), R.Chozah(Gen Secretary), Mr.Laitha(Assi Secretary), Benhur(Financial Secretary) and Ram Lian Mwai(Treasure).
