Annual Report:Chin Students’ Union 2010-2012

The Students’ Union of the session 2010-2012 has been one of the most hard working and successful Union in the recent time. The Union members under the guidance of Advisors Dr. Achan Mungleng, Mr. Plato Van Rung Mang and Mr. Rachi Cinzah (Papu), etc. have made the Union proud. The Union comprised of really dedicated and hardworking members, to name a few Salai Laitha Andrew- the President, Salai Sang Hnin Lian- General Secretary, Kejung Kimsing- Vice President, Salai June Nilian Sang- Asst. Secretary, Mai Dawt Hlei Par- Financial Secretary etc.
Key Activities of May-November 2010

Ø  The CSU has stood for assisting students in getting admission to schools, colleges and universities and met with principals to accept the Burma students in future and to give opportunities as their own people. The CSU has admitted three students in Delhi University and five students in New Holy Public School, Delhi Public School, Bharati Public School and Harsh Convent School.
Ø  As Chin Students’ Union is the member of the Chin Students and Youth Federation (CSYF), Salai Laitha Andrew and Mai Lallenmawii attended the first Conference of CSYF at Chin National Council office on 28-29, June 2010.
Ø  The Chin Students’ Union has successfully organized Education Awareness Workshop on 13 November 2010.
Ø  CSU participated with Students for free Tibet (SFT) in a meeting organized by Oxfam to raise awareness on the environmental issues especially base on climate change on December 2010.
Key Activities of 2011

Ø  The Chin Students’ Union showed its real strength for organizing the Chin National Day in New Delhi. Therefore, the Chin Students’ Union could successfully organize the 63th anniversary of Chin National Day with the help of the Chin Refugee Community in New Delhi on 20, February 2011.
Ø  CSU and SIFE IIT-Delhi closely work together for the placement cell for the Refugee community in Delhi during 2011.
Ø  CSU has admitted around ten students in Ingraham Institute and Roorkee Inter-College for high School in the month of May and June 2011.
Ø  CSU has admitted around eight students in Delhi University and Sikkim Manipal University on May 2011.
Ø  CSU president Salai Laitha and General Secretary Salai Sang Hnin Lian participated in training on the Project Management Course offered by Burma Centre Prague in Delhi in July 2011.
Ø  CSU has organized fresher’s welcome for new students in CHRO office on 18, July 2011.
Ø  CSU has had a by-election for the vacant post of the executive committee on 23, July 2011.
Ø  CSU has successfully organized Two-days Capacity Building Training for Better Employment on 7-8, October 2011.
Ø  CSU has had annual meeting on 28, December 2011 and reported all the activities of the year.

Key Activities of 2012

Ø  CSU had organized the first ever study tour to Resikesh, Uttrankhan for its member on 5-6, January 2012.
Ø  CSU’s members Salai Laitha, Kejung Kimsing, Salai Sang Hnin Lian and Salai Thian Za Thang participated in a round-table discussion between Ethnic Nationality Council leaders and members of an Indian think-tank at the Jamia Milia Isalamia University and India International Centre in Delhi on January 2012.
Ø  CSU helped the MPs from Burma, Professor, Social Workers and Media person, who came to attend the Conference in Delhi, to visit the historic places in Delhi and Taj Mahal on January 2011.
Ø  CSU accompanied a representative from the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) to visit the homes of the Chin refugee families living in Delhi from November 2011-May 2012.
Ø  In coordination with the JRS, CSU help to select the Chin ten people to study English in British Council in Delhi from January-March 2012.
Ø  CSU admitted eight students in Delhi University.
Ø  The Chin Students’ Union has organized the 36th Anniversary of Salai Tin Maung Oo Memorial Day with the help of Chin Community Network and Chin Human Rights Organization on 26 June 2012 in New Delhi.
Ø  CSU’s members Jennifer Sanghleitial, Salai Thian Za Thang and Salai Sang Hnin Lian participated in a round-table discussion between Burma Center Delhi and members of an Indian think-tank at the Institute of Social Science in Delhi on 4 August 2012.
Ø  The present total number of the Chin Students in Delhi is thirty in Delhi University and IGNOU.
Ø  In 2012, Three of CSU members namely Salai Laitha Andrew, Salai Thian Za Thang and Salai Siang Ceu are graduated from Delhi University.
